Illegal Oil Bunkering: Navy Hands Over Four Suspects, Vessel To EFCC In Delta

The Nigerian Navy on December 21, 2018 handed over four persons and a vessel allegedly involved in illegal oil bunkering to operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Office, for further investigation and possible prosecution. .

The suspects: Promise Onate, Emonefe Stanley, Samson Obaje and Peresey Friday were onboard the vessel, MV Enterprise, when they were rounded up by men of the Nigerian Navy, NNS Delta on December 4, 2018 at Nana Creek Escravos, Delta State. .

They were arrested on the suspicion that they were conveying Automotive Gas Oil, AGO, without any valid approval. .

Captain P. G. Yilme, who represented the NNS Commander at the handing over in Warri, Delta State, said, "After forensic analysis of the product by officials of Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, the result revealed that the product onboard were poorly refined AGO".

While receiving the suspects and the vessel, Richard Ogberagha, an EFCC operative, said "the Commission will carry out further investigation and ensure that those found culpable are brought to book".

Photos: Libyan Navy rescues 199 African migrants including Nigerians at sea

The Libyan Navy has rescued 199 illegal immigrants, including women and children, while attempting to reach Europe by sea. "A Libyan Coast Guard patrol rescued 179 men, 16 women and 4 children on board rubber boats in the middle of the sea," the Information Office of the Libyan Navy explained. The office added that the immigrants were of different African nationalities, including Nigeria. Four of them were from Egypt. The migrants were handed over to the immigration HQ of the Immigration Control Agency after providing them with humanitarian and medical assistance, according to the Information Office of the Libyan Navy.

Agents with U.S. Customs and the Drug Enforcement Administration have seized $18 million dollars’ worth of cocaine disguised as banana heading to a prison in Texas.   According to reports, the Wayne Scott Unit Prison Farm outside of Freeport, Texas, received a couple pallets of bananas as a donation. When two sergeants went to pick up the pallets, they found the drugs.   “One of the sergeants noticed one of the boxes didn’t seem quite right, looked a little further, removed that box off the pallets, looked inside and saw something extraordinarily suspicious,” Jeremy Desel with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice told KTRK.   Hidden under bundles of bananas were 540 kilos of cocaine. An American woman in Zimbabwe has been jailed for 'insulting' President Robert Mugabe by allegedly tweeting an image of him which suggested he has a catheter from an anonymous account which was still active as she languished behind bars on Saturday.
