Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-rufai has filed a N2 billion lawsuit against Senator Shehu Sani for defamation, PoliticsNGR has gathered. El-Rufai filed the suit at the Kaduna State High court on Friday, seeking reliefs for injuries allegedly suffered as results of “malicious statements” in the media by Senator Sani. The Kaduna governor claims that Sani made malicious statements through the media to humiliate and defame him adding that Sani called him a "drunk, loose cannon and an embarrassment to President Muhammadu Buhari". El-rufai demanded a public declaration from Sani that the terrible remarks made against him were false. Speaking to reporters at the court premises after filing the suit, counsel to El-Rufai, Abdulhakeem Mustapha, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), dismissed insinuations that the governor, by virtue of his position did not have the constitutional right to sue any citizen.

Thai police working with the US Drug Enforcement agency have arrested a Nigerian man who they say is an international drug dealer in cocaine. Emmanuel Okwudili Ilichukwu was arrested in Suksawat Soi 26 on two warrants on Thursday, February 22.A force led by deputy tourist police commissioner Surachet Hakpal raided his property where they found a quantity of ganja in a food cupboard. Surachet told the media that the Thais had been working with the DEA to arrest the Nigerian. He had been on their radar but managed to avoid capture before.He had made frequent trips from Bangkok to Nigeria and was involved in packaging cocainein plastic and hiding it in electrical appliances. The drugs found their way to Australia and New Zealand. He was using Bangkok as a base and also dealing drugs in the Thai capital. He has been charged with possession and intent to distribute a class 2 drug (cocaine).

The Kano State Police Command confirmed onSaturday that three girls died of suffocation inside a parked car in Sabon Gari area of Kano metropolis. The car has been parked there for more than one year; the girls were playing around it and later locked themselves inside. Apparently, they could not open the door and there was no one around to assist them. Three of them died of suffocation while one survived,” Magaji Majiya, spokesman of the command, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).He said that the incident happened “around 3 p.m. on Friday”. According to him, the girls were aged between two and four years.“The victim that survived has been taken to thehospital while investigation has commenced into the matter,” Mr. Majiya said.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered that the missing leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, be separately tried from the rest of his co-defendants. Justice Binta Nyako made the order following an oral application by the lead prosecuting counsel, Mr. Shuaibu Labaran, who noted that Kanu’s continued absence from court since he was granted bail in April 2017 “has frustrated progress in the case.” “In the circumstance, the prosecution shall be asking for the indulgence of your lordship to separate the trial so that progress can be made in this matter,” Labaran said. Other defence lawyers did not oppose the application.Kanu, who, alongside his co-defendants, is being prosecuted on five counts bordering on treasonable felony, among other charges, was absent from court on Tuesday.
