El-Rufai Sues Shehu Sani For Defamation ForN2 Billion

Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-rufai has filed a N2 billion lawsuit against Senator Shehu Sani for defamation, PoliticsNGR has gathered. El-Rufai filed the suit at the Kaduna State High court on Friday, seeking reliefs for injuries allegedly suffered as results of “malicious statements” in the media by Senator Sani.

The Kaduna governor claims that Sani made malicious statements through the media to humiliate and defame him adding that Sani called him a "drunk, loose cannon and an embarrassment to President Muhammadu Buhari". El-rufai demanded a public declaration from Sani that the terrible remarks made against him were false.

Speaking to reporters at the court premises after filing the suit, counsel to El-Rufai, Abdulhakeem Mustapha, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), dismissed insinuations that the governor, by virtue of his position did not have the constitutional right to sue any citizen.

Former WBA world super-middleweight champion, George Groves retires from boxing at the age of 30

Former WBA world super-middleweight champion,  George Groves  has announced his retirement from boxing four months after losing his WBA belt to fellow Briton Callum Smith. 30-year old Groves, who became world champion at the fourth attempt when he beat Russia’s  Fedor Chudinov  in Sheffield in 2017, said he wanted to go out at the top.   “I don’t want there to be a time where I’m ‘too old’ to box on, or where an injury retires me in or out of the ring,” he said in a statement on his Instagram account. In his fight prior to the Chudinov bout Groves beat  Eduard Gutknecht , the German suffered a serious brain injury that left him in a coma and unable to fight again. Nigerian ‘pirate’ Boss To Be Extradited To The Netherlands

A 27-year-old suspected Nigerian "pirate' syndicate boss, Itoruboemi Benson Lobia, is set to be extradited to the Netherlands for prosecution. According to Timeslive, the move follows a ruling by South Africa’s Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Friday. Lobia was arrested by South Africa’s Interpol branch at the OR Tambo International Airport, in November, 2018, while seemingly fleeing to Mauritius following his most recent attack. The crew of the Dutch cargo ship FWN Rapide was kidnapped in April 2018 while travelling between Ghana and Nigeria, held hostage for three weeks before being released following an intensive negotiation process. The Dutch government has insisted Lobia was the leader of the pirate group, and suspects he may have also been responsible for other similar attacks and running a syndicate with international connections. Lobia said he was hired by the Nigerian army, as a ships security officer, in charge of protecting the Nigerian waterways.

Doctor beheaded by boyfriend after she refused to marry him

A junior doctor was beheaded by her boyfriend after she refused to marry him, police say. The boyfriend then tried to take his own life but failed. 26-year-old Shyngys Bekenov, a teacher, proposed to his girlfriend Nazerke Bekzhanova, 21, who had recently graduated from medical university in Kazakhstan. But Nazerke refused to accept the proposal because her parents did not approve of him, it is believed. Angered by her rejection, Shyngys severed his girlfriend's head as they sat in his car.
