Nigeria To Get First Gold Refinery In Ogun

Nigeria stands at the threshold of history, as is set to have Ist gold refinery in the country.

The refinery will be located in Mowe, Ogun State.

According to a statement by Kian Smith, the refinery is coming to add value to the economy, gold miners and traders and will also increase revenue to the government especially at a time oil prices have become volatile, leaving the economy in dire need of improved revenues from other sources.

Bawa Bwari, minister of mines and steel development would be joined by the Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and other functionaries from the public and private sectors for the ground breaking ceremony of the Kian Smith Gold Refinery on Thursday, December 13, the statement says.

The indigenous adds that its vision is to contribute to the development of the Nigerian gold market as well as help in creating jobs in the economy.

Udo Udoma, minister of budget and national planning, had recently announced in Abuja that the Federal Government has issued first gold refinery license in the country to Kian Smith, which would soon go into operation.

A baby born with a football-sized cyst on her neck is finally going home after a team of 40 doctors removed the growth from her neck in a gruelling operation. Agents with U.S. Customs and the Drug Enforcement Administration have seized $18 million dollars’ worth of cocaine disguised as banana heading to a prison in Texas.   According to reports, the Wayne Scott Unit Prison Farm outside of Freeport, Texas, received a couple pallets of bananas as a donation. When two sergeants went to pick up the pallets, they found the drugs.   “One of the sergeants noticed one of the boxes didn’t seem quite right, looked a little further, removed that box off the pallets, looked inside and saw something extraordinarily suspicious,” Jeremy Desel with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice told KTRK.   Hidden under bundles of bananas were 540 kilos of cocaine. The Libyan Navy has rescued 199 illegal immigrants, including women and children, while attempting to reach Europe by sea. "A Libyan Coast Guard patrol rescued 179 men, 16 women and 4 children on board rubber boats in the middle of the sea," the Information Office of the Libyan Navy explained. The office added that the immigrants were of different African nationalities, including Nigeria. Four of them were from Egypt. The migrants were handed over to the immigration HQ of the Immigration Control Agency after providing them with humanitarian and medical assistance, according to the Information Office of the Libyan Navy.

An American woman in Zimbabwe has been jailed for 'insulting' President Robert Mugabe by allegedly tweeting an image of him which suggested he has a catheter from an anonymous account which was still active as she languished behind bars on Saturday. Martha O'Donovan, 25, was arrested on Friday morning at her home near Harare, the country'scapital, and was taken into custody on a charge of insulting or undermining the president and trying to overthrow an elected government.Police say that on October 11, O'Donovan tweeted that Mugabe, 93, is a 'very selfish and sick man' and claimed that he was surviving on a catheter.
