Nigerian Man Gets £20,000 For Winning British Council Ideas Challenge (Photo)

A Nigerian, Job Oyebisi, who won the 2018 Idea Change Lives British Council global competition, was yesterday awarded a cash prize of £20,000 for emerging champion.

Oyebisi, who runs StanLab, a 3D virtual science laboratory, is also a joint winner of the competition with ‘Malawi’s mHub’.

He won the championship that featured over 170 countries by creating a viable solution that would enhance secondary school students get acquitted with new learning skills in laboratory technology.

Supporters of Julie Briskman, who was fired from her job after she was photographed raising the middle finger to Donald Trump's motorcade, have raised more than $61,000 in a crowdfunding effort. Briskman lost her government contractor job last week after a photo of her giving Trump'smotorcade the finger in northern Virginia, on October 28, made worldwide news. Despite the setback, 2,600 supporters of the mother-of-two have raised more than $61,000 on a Go Fund Me page in just seven days. A nursing mother in Lagos is seeking help on how to handle her husband who has over the years subjected her to serious domestic violence. According to Twitter user, Monye Morris who shared the story online, the distressed mum visited the Office of the Public Defender in Lagos to seek help. US chip-maker Qualcomm claims it has won an injunction against Apple that effectively bans the import and sale of a number of iPhone models, ranging from the iPhone 6S to the iPhone X. The preliminary order, issued by a Chinese court, is the latest in step a continuing feud between the two tech giants over intellectual property. However, Apple says all of its iPhone models remain on sale in the country. The disputed patents relate to software rather than hardware. The injunction affects devices running older versions of Apple’s iOS operating system and not those running the latest version, iOS 12. The court found Apple had violated two of Qualcomm’s patents – one regarding photograph resizing and the other related to how apps are managed on a touch screen. “Apple continues to benefit from our intellectual property while refusing to compensate us,” said Don Rosenberg, general counsel of Qualcomm. State College cops who killed Osaze Osagie, a Nigerian student in the United States, have been cleared of all charges. The police officers had implemented the use of force while serving a mental health warrant that resulted in the death of Osaze Osagie on March 20. According to a the Centre County District Attorney Bernie Cantorna, the officers were in a “life-and-death situation” when they shot Osagie who was approaching them with a 5.16-inch steak knife, Onwardstate reports. Osagie died of multiple gunshot wounds after the confrontation at his apartment on Old Boalsburg Road.
