FIFA bans three former presidents for life as part of crackdown on corruption

The ethics committee of World football governing body, (FIFA) has placed a lifetime ban on former presidents of the Guam, Nicaraguan and Venezuelan football associations for corruption. Ex-Guam FA boss Richard Lai, a former Asian Football Confederation(AFC) official, and FIFA committee member, pleaded guilty to fraud in the United States after an investigation into his case was opened in April.

Lai was banned from all football-related activities alongside, a formerVenezuelan FA chief Rafael Esquiveland ex-Nicaraguan FA president Julio Rocha who both also pleaded guilty in the United States to separate federal charges ranging from wire fraud to racketeering and money laundering.

Meanwhile, three more ex-South American football bosses, Peru's Manuel Burga, Brazilian Jose Maria Marin and Juan Angel Napout of Paraguay are also on trial in New York. They have also pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud, money-laundering, and racketeering.

Barcelona icon, Xavi 'agrees £5.4m-a-year deal' to replace Quique Setien as new manager of the club

Barcelona icon, Xavi has reportedly agreed to replace Quique Setien as the new manager of the Spanish giants.    Setien, 61, has been under intense pressure since replacing Ernesto Valverde in January, and there are speculations that the club's board have already decided to sack him in order to pave the way for Xavi.    According to Mundo Deportivo, a "firm agreement" has been finalized and it would see Barcelona pay Xavi, 40, a bumper £5.4million per year. He is expected to take up the reins at the end of the season.      The legendary Spanish midfielder, who joined the club at the age of 11, made 767 first-team appearances for Barcelona, scoring 85 goals with 182 assists. He also won eight league titles, four Champions Leagues and three Copas del Rey, as well as two Club World Cups.

Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has identified the late former military Head of State, Sani Abacha, as the biggest thief in world history, stating that 21-years after, more loots linked to the former dictator were still being uncovered. Omokri was responding to the claim by Nasir El-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State, that Northerners are rarely arrested for advance fee fraud, popularly known in local parlance as Yahoo Yahoo. Russian Lady Who Forgave Boyfriend After Biting Her, Finally Killed By Him

A 20-year-old Russian man identified as Oleg Myshadaev, has admitted to police that he killed his girlfriend with a knife, hammer and billiard cue. Myshadaev had previously been spared jail after Alexandra Shaposhnikova, 20, begged a judge not to send him to prison for biting off her nose. However, one year on, he went into a vodka-fuelled rage and Alexandra was found dead in the flat where they lived in Saransk, Russia.
