Agents with U.S. Customs and the Drug Enforcement Administration have seized $18 million dollars’ worth of cocaine disguised as banana heading to a prison in Texas.   According to reports, the Wayne Scott Unit Prison Farm outside of Freeport, Texas, received a couple pallets of bananas as a donation. When two sergeants went to pick up the pallets, they found the drugs.   “One of the sergeants noticed one of the boxes didn’t seem quite right, looked a little further, removed that box off the pallets, looked inside and saw something extraordinarily suspicious,” Jeremy Desel with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice told KTRK.   Hidden under bundles of bananas were 540 kilos of cocaine. USCB and DEA agents reported to the scene and seized the drugs. DEA agent Wendell Campbell said it’s just the latest attempt to smuggle drugs in strange ways. He has seen heroin hidden in a car axle, re-sealed cans of iced tea with liquid methamphetamine inside, and m...

US Support For Atiku, A Major Boost To His Candidacy 2019

By -
Image
On 17th of January 2019, had Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Senate President, Bukola Saraki, landing in Washington D.C, U.S. As opposed to speculations, the presidential candidate visited the US, to meet with the US Chamber of Commerce, the US Congress, Nigerians in Diaspora and the Business community. Speculations of a likely US support of an Atiku presidency have been on and out, but the candidate gave life to the speculation when he referenced the huge support he enjoys across the US government, in an Interview in Hausa by VOA’s Aliyu Mustapha. Atiku when asked about the US support for him, stated; “There is no doubt because the United State is ready to support any country that is practicing democracy.” Recall that the U.S African Mission in a tweet, stated that there are 13.5m out of school children in 2018. What many saw as a normal tweet, was misread by many as a frontal US support for Atiku’s candidacy. Also, considering that the Government of Donald Trump and the policies of Atiku ...

Is Abortion the same thing as Murder ?

By -
I was pondering this morning about murder , you know , with all the disturbing front page articles on murder and the gruesome pictures shown. I started thinking , how can people be so heartless and lacking in empathy to the extent of not just killing a fellow being but doing so in a manner that is savagely barbaric. These murderers must have mental health issues, anger problems or just plain evil built into their DNA. Following this thinking, I began to wonder, but what about abortion, is it murder and if yes, is there a difference between a murderer who kills a grown man or woman, and someone who aborts a fetus. Few things to consider about the Fetus - The fetus is in a sort of oblivious state of being as it pertains to consciousness - The fetus is not fully formed as a human being, so perhaps may not yet be a human being - The fetus may be the result of a rape or unintended consequences ( such as intercourse between two careless people ) - The fetus may possess a deformity that if a...

Islamic-State Linked Terrorists Seized Nigeria's Baga Town - BBC

By -

Militants linked to the Islamic State (IS) group have hoisted their flag in a Nigerian town after seizing control of it, three residents have told the BBC. Hundreds of people have fled the fishing town of Baga after the militants overran it on Wednesday night, the residents said. The militants seized weapons from a military base, and torched a naval base on the shores of Lake Chad, they said. The military denied Baga had fallen, saying the attack had been repelled. But PRNigeria, an agency well-connected with the military, quoted an intelligence officer as saying that troops had made a "tactical withdrawal" from their base after coming under attack. "The Nigerian Air Force in response to distress call quickly mobilised military aircraft and flew over 20 sorties [on] Wednesday night and throughout Thursday," it quoted the unnamed officer as saying. A resident, who spoke to the BBC after he fled Baga, said a militant led the morning prayer on Thursday at his mosque i...

Swiss Govt Close To Revealing Nigerian Beneficiaries Of $1.1b Malabu Oil Bribes

By -
Materials in a suitcase seized nearly three years ago by Swiss authorities may unlock the identities of the Nigerian recipients of the $1.1billion in corrupt payments by Shell and ENI over the purchase of OPL 245 from Malabu Oil. A Geneva prosecutor is now reviewing the materials and will decide what can be shared with Italian authorities, where some trials have begun in the monumental bribery scandal. The prosecutor received the green light after Switzerland’s top court, the Federal Tribunal, rejected an appeal by Nigerian defendant Emeka Obi to prevent his bag from being unsealed. The Lausanne court’s Nov. 8 ruling, published online, said that the confiscated material – including documents, an external hard drive, British and African passports, and USB keys – could have “potential pertinence” in the criminal investigation and the sealing could be lifted without violating Swiss law. “The Geneva prosecutor now has access to all the material in conformity with the Federal Tribunal ruli...

Thinking about taking a dip into a public pool to cool off, well think again. Many public pools are crawling with germs and, if not treated properly, can pose a major health risk. Before heading to the pool at any time, find out what could be lurking in the water and learn how to protect yourself and your family. 1. 1 in 5 adults pees in the pool Though it may seem like a habit most people would grow out of after childhood or preferably, never pick up in the first place. Many adults admit to relieving themselves while swimming. In fact, a 2012 survey conducted by the Water Quality & Health Council found that one in five U.S. adults urinates in the pool. 2. There’s probably poop in the pool, too A recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention foundthat 1 in 8 public pools, hot tubs, and water playgrounds was shut down because of health and safety violations, including excessively dirty water. Canadian Farmer Discovers New Tyrannosaur Species, One Of The Oldest Kind Ever

By -
Image
Tyrannosaurus rex, the king of the dinosaurs, has gained a new family member. The fragments of a fossilized skull belonging to a previously unknown species of tyrannosaur were found in southern Alberta, Canada. And it's all thanks to John De Groot, a farmer and palaeontology enthusiast who found the fossil, according to a release from the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Alberta, where the fossils will be displayed later this year. This is the first new tyrannosaur found in Canada in 50 years and one of the oldest tyrannosaur species found in North America. And researchers believe that Thanatotheristes degrootorum lived about 2.5 million years before its close relative, Tyrannosaurus rex Thanatotheristes degrootorum was stalking what is now North America as a formidable predator 79.5 million years ago. It could reach between 26 and 30 feet in length and weighed more than two tons as an adult. Tyrannosaurus rex could reach about 40 feet in length. Its name combines Thanatos, the Greek god o...

UNN Stops An Academic Conference On Witchcraft (Photos)

By -
The organisers of the planned academic conference on witchcraft planned for Nsukka next week are looking for another venue after the University of Nigeria withdrew the approval for the use of its Energy Centre. The director of the centre wrote conference organisers withdrawing the approval, amidst the opposition by Christian students and the Christian Association of Nigeria against the conference. The conference, initially scheduled for 28-31 October is the brainchild of the B.I.C Ijomah Centre for Policy and Research and is expected to hold between November 26 and November 27. It is a pure academic exercise, not a real meeting of witches and wizards, the centre said, shocked by the uninformed reaction of Christian students and CAN. Posters pasted by Christian students on the campus decried the conference. The posters bear the messages: “Say No to the meeting of witches and wizards!!! We are (a) Christian community. Don’t pollute our environment please!” “University of Nigeria belongs...
