Iran: Reconsider travelling to Nigeria, US warns citizens

Following the Friday killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in a drone airstrike, the United States has cautioned Americans to reconsider travelling to or across Nigeria.

The US Embassy in Nigeria, in a statement on its website, admonished American citizens to review their personal security measures, be prudent and keep a low profile.

Stating that it had no specific security threat information, the mission advised US nationals in Nigeria to stay alert in public places, including schools, hospitals, government facilities, places of worship, tourist locations, and transportation hubs.

The security advisory, which was dated January 3, 2020, also asked them to review and alter travel routes and times to reduce time and place predictability.

It read, “Due to recent world events, U.S. citizens should review their personal security measures. While we have no specific threat information, it is prudent to remind ourselves of the following personal security actions to follow on a regular basis.

“Actions to take: Be aware of your surroundings; keep a low profile; avoid crowds and demonstrations; exercise caution when walking or driving at night; carry proper identification; review your personal security plans and monitor local media for updates.”

The professor who went naked days ago to protest Brexit (read  here ) has gone naked again during a Brexit radio interview. Dr Victoria Bateman, an Economics Fellow from the University of Cambridge, appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme to talk about the advantages of the EU. During her discussion with presenter John Humphrys, she took off her coat to reveal she was completely naked underneath. She had the words ‘Brexit leaves Britain naked’ scrawled across her chest. A man identified as Engineer Simput Eagles Dafup has been arrested for allegedly converting one Miss Nabila Umar Sanda Galadima from Islam to Christianity on a flight from United Kingdom. Kehinde Olatubosun, 56, from Ibadan, Oyo State, was arrested on Saturday night along with 18 other drug addicts at a joint in Ipodo, Ikeja. 'Rambo' suspect Yves Rausch held in Black Forest after five-day hunt

German police have arrested a suspected gunman nicknamed "Rambo" after a five-day manhunt in the Black Forest. Yves Rausch, 31, is said to have fled into the forest near Oppenau, in south-west Germany, on Sunday after threatening four police officers and taking their pistols. An elite unit, helicopters, thermal detectors and sniffer dogs had been deployed to find him. After his arrest, officers seized four firearms, according to a statement. A postal worker gave police information which helped lead to his arrest and one person was injured during the operation, Germany's Bild daily is reporting. The United States has again warned Nigerian political leaders of severe sanctions if their comments incite the people to violence that disrupts the smooth conduct of the general election. The U.S. ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, also warned public officials not to be deceived by politicians who may issue illegal directives to them using the name of President Muhammadu Buhari.
