Supreme Court affirms interim forfeiture of another N2.4bn linked to Patience Jonathan

The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed another order of interim forfeiture made by the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court in respect of the sum of N2.4bn allegedly traced to the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.

The apex court, had barely a week ago, affirmed an interim forfeiture of the sum of $8.4m belonging to the ex-First Lady and directed her to return to the Federal High Court in Lagos to show cause why the fund should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.

On Friday, in a separate appeal, a five-man bench of the apex court unanimously handed down a similar verdict on another sum of N2,421,953,522 in the bank account of Lawari Furniture and Bath Limited, a firm which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had linked to Mrs. Jonathan.

Lawari Furniture and Bath Limited had, through its lawyers, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), filed the appeal to challenge the January 12, 2018 judgment of the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal, which had affirmed the interim forfeiture order of the Federal High Court in Abuja in respect of the N2.4bn.

EFCC Arraigns 24 University Students Internet Fraudsters

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan Office has arraigned twenty four students of Olabisi Onabanjo University and the National Open University of Nigeria who were arrested for alleged involvement in various cyber crimes. Ten of the defendants which include: Agboola Taiwo, Adetayo Tade Ademiluyi, Rabiu Daniel, Sokoya Oluwaseyi, Fredrick Shaibu, Oshikoya Gbolahan, Adegbola Kazeem Aina, Ademosun Opeyemi, Tosin Awobona and Babarinde Jacob were arraigned Monday, 10th December, 2018 before Hon. Ex-bank MD Bags 19 Years For N29m Fraud

A Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday sentenced a former acting Managing Director of Century Microfinance Bank Limited, Olise Robinson, to 19 years imprisonment for stealing N29 million from the bank. Justice Okon Abang convicted Robinson of five counts of stealing, signature forgery, uttering of documents and criminal breach of trust. According to the Police Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos, Robinson committed the offences while acting as the bank’s head between June 2008 and November 2009. Prosecution counsel Chukwu Agwu said the offences contravened Sections 390(6), 463 and 468 of the Criminal Code 2008 and were punishable under Section 467 of the same Act. Robinson pleaded not guilty. During the trial, Agwu called four witnesses and tendered several exhibits. The defendant testified for himself. Two ladies have taken to social media to mock 'Yahoo Boys' and ritualists over the growing pant theft menace which has been rocking the country Nigeria for quite some time now.
