American multinational company, Stericycle Inc., recently hoisted the Nigerian flag in honour of a hardworking new employee, Mrs Omolanke Shelle. Thirty eight years old Shelle, an indigene of Ekiti, western Nigeria, works at the company’s facility in Aurora, Illinois, where the Green-White-Green was raised in April. This came barely a month after Stericycle gave the mother of three full-time job on March 17, following the expiration of a temporary employment that lasted for about five months. Her supervisor, Mr John Katchka, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Shelle was honoured on account of her “attitude, work ethic, ability to learn and team spirit’’. “Ms Shelle came to us via a temporary employment agency during our busy season’’, said in a written response to NAN’s enquiry. “We were impressed by her attitude, work ethic, ability to learn and team spirit. The Canadian government has sent a powerful message to the members of the Igbo community in the country. Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Honourable Ralph Goodale, wrote to the Cultural Association of Saskatchewan (ICAS) as they prepare to celebrate their Nigerian-Canadian heritage on August 3. Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has identified the late former military Head of State, Sani Abacha, as the biggest thief in world history, stating that 21-years after, more loots linked to the former dictator were still being uncovered. A Nigerian woman and her kids were forced to sleep outside the Nigerian embassy in Berlin, after a long journey from Munich to renew their passports. In the viral video shared, a man was heard saying in the background that the Nigerian ambassador left the stranded woman and her kids outside after they arrived at night. One of the kids who was quite uncomfortable with the sleep-spot, was also spotted crying. The authorities at the Nigerian embassy in Germany, are however yet to react to the video which has gone viral on social media. 

A 32-year-old Nigerian national has been arrested in Hyderabad, India for allegedly cheating a woman in the pretext of marrying her. Alionyem Bright from Delta State contacted the woman introducing himself as Basim Karim from United Kingdom and showed interest in marrying her. He then told her he is coming to India soon with some foreign currency and gifts. However, the next day the woman received fake calls claiming that Basim was arrested in Delhi by the custom officials and asked her to pay Rs 16.3 lakh. According to the police, the fake customs officials had collected a total of Us 16.3 lakh from her on the pretext of taxes and other expenditure. The woman later realised that she was cheated and approached the police.

Kano State Hisbah Board has launched a manhunt on a couple who reportedly got married through Facebook, BBC Hausa has reported. DAILY NIGERIAN reports that one Sunusi Abdullahi, a 29-year-old man from Kano State was said to have tied the knot with a lady via Facebook, with user name bearing Zainabu Abu, from Maiduguri, Borno State. Nigerian doctor, Obinna Oke has shared a rather unfortunate news of the death of an 18-year-old undergraduate student who died after cutting off his manhood. 30 dead, 42 injured after suicide bombers attack viewing center in Borno 30 persons have been confirmed dead while 42 others have been seriously injured in a multiple bomb blasts that rocked a Borno village on Sunday night. A statement signed by the Director of Search and Rescue Operation, Borno State Emergency Management Agency, Usman Kachalla, says the bomb blast incident occurred at Mandarari village in Konduga local government area of the state at exactly 8:50pm on Sunday. Three suicide bombers detonated Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, at a viewing centre which killed no fewer than 17 people, including a mobile policeman.
