US Physician Replies Nigerian Born Doctor Over Hydroxychloroquine As Covid- 19 Cure

US based physician and immunoplogist, Anthony Stephen Fauci, on Tuesday dismissed the validity of hydroxychloroquine as a Covid- 19 cure.

The reaction comes after the US president, Donald Trump shared a tweet of Nigerian doctor, Stella Emmanuel, who claimed the drug was a potential cure for the virus.

Although the viral tweet has been deleted by Trump, many experts have described the claim as fraudulent.

The drug had earlier been discredited by the World Health Organisation.

In an interview on ABC News, Fauci said that clinical trials of the drug proved that it was not a cure for Covid- 19.

He further called on US residents to adhere to the wearing of masks.

The Nigerian had during a two-day “White Coat Summit”  in Washington, claimed that hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and antibacterial drug, Zithromax, were effective cures for the Covid-19.

The Nigerian spoke during a news conference held by a group of American doctors under the aegis of “America’s Frontline Doctors” in front of the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington DC.

Emmanuel also faulted experts’ warning that hydroxychloroquine could induce heart problems for coronavirus patients.

According to her, she had successfully treated over 350 patients with hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and Zithromax.

Emmanuel also said hydroxychloroquine, long touted by President Donald Trump as a cure for the virus, could also prevent the disease.

She said, “I know you’re going to tell me that you treated 20 people, 40 people, and it didn’t work. I’m a true testimony.

“So I came here to Washington DC to tell America nobody needs to get sick. This virus has a cure. It is called hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and Zithromax.

“I know you people want to talk about a mask. Hello? You don’t need a mask. There is a cure.

“I know they don’t want to open schools. No, you don’t need people to be locked down. There is prevention and there is a cure.

“And let me tell you something, all you fake doctors out there that tell me, ‘Yeah. I want a double-blinded study’,” she added.

If the Hydroxychloroquine is not the drug to cure Covid - 19 then when is the cure going to be available.
